BOOK DEVELOPMENT, WRITING, EDITING, AND PROPOSALS
Distinguish yourself as an eminent authority in your practice area. David M. Freedman helps authors (including first-time authors) with every stage of book development, including: concept, research, structure, composition, illustration, editing, proofreading, indexing, proposals, and publishing contract negotiation.

Depending on your topic, objective, and writing skill, Freedman may serve as an editor, writing coach, ghostwriter, coauthor, and/or publishing agent.

FREEDMAN GUARANTEES your book will be highly authoritative, meticulously accurate, and extremely valuable to your target audience. High editorial standards will distinguish your book from the heap of mediocre books, written by advisers and consultants, that are hastily written and self-serving. Those standards again:

  • Highly authoritative
  • Meticulously accurate
  • Extremely valuable

PUBLISHING CONTRACT and advance: If your book is a commercial project (rather than a self-published promotional piece), Freedman will help you query publishers and obtain a publishing contract, and possibly an advance on royalties; so you don't have to commit copious time to a speculative project. Depending on the nature of the project, Freedman may charge you a flat fee (for a large project), an hourly fee (for a small project), a percentage of royalties, or a combination of those.

THE 4YRP BOOKSTORE: If you would rather self-publish, you are welcome to sell your book through the 4YRP (For Your Reading Pleasure) website, which focuses on literature about (a) law and justice, (b) finance and economics, and (c) the Great Lakes Basin. You would receive generous royalties on sales through 4YRP, which Freedman owns and manages.

LEGAL & FINANCIAL BACKGROUND: Freedman has been a legal and financial journalist and author since 1978. See his profile. He has participated in the following successful book projects:

Dave coauthored Death of an American (Continuum, New York, 1983). This non-fiction book is based on the $100 million Singer vs. Wadman civil rights lawsuit filed in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1979.

He wrote Box-Making Basics, a woodworking book (Taunton Press, Newtown, CT, 1997), which has sold 64,000 copies.

Dave edited Information Nation: Seven Keys to Information Management Compliance, by Randolph Kahn, attorney, and Barclay Blair, management consultant (AIIM, Silver Spring, MD, 2004).

Dave wrote Chapter 45, on marketing communications, of the book Flying Solo: A Survival Guide for the Solo and Small Firm Lawyer, Fourth Edition (ABA, Chicago, 2005).

He is a coauthor of Under Your Byline: 7 Steps to Getting Your Bylined Articles Published—in the Publications that Matter Most (www.byline7.com). He also coauthored two other handbooks on media relations for lawyers:

How to Get Quoted and Featured in the Media
How to Do the Interview: Policies, Strategies, and Techniques

If you want to be the author of an outstanding book—not just a decent book—please contact Freedman to discuss your project and get an estimate of costs, fees, and projected sales or royalties.
