ABOUT THE SERIESpad

As a media relations consultant to lawyers and other professionals, Dave Freedman (bio) noticed that something important was missing from all the books and articles about media relations for lawyers: comprehensive, in-depth, step-by-step, practical how-to information with lots of useful examples, case studies, and success stories. Most of the literature he found about legal PR seemed superficial and full of vague platitudes. So he decided to interview lawyers, law firm marketers, marketing consultants, PR professionals, and reporters; and he organized what he learned into four in-depth, comprehensive handbooks — the GET GOOD PRESS Series for Lawyers.

He also noticed that many lawyers are reluctant to take advantage of opportunities to appear in the media, because they are not confident that they can perform well in media interviews — and some lawyers don’t trust reporters and treat them as adversaries. So Dave included comprehensive guidelines for overcoming media anxiety, performing well in interviews, and getting along with journalists.

The four handbooks in The GET GOOD PRESS Series for Lawyers are:

  • How to Get Quoted and Featured in the Media
Become a highly quotable source, and pitch great story ideas that win media coverage

  • How to Do the Interview
A comprehensive guide to being interviewed by reporters – and impressing your audiences

  • Under Your Byline
10 steps to getting your bylined articles published – in the publications that matter most

  • Three Essential Media Relations Tools
How to create a powerful media contact list, press kit, and online media center

To add perspective and wisdom, he asked Paula Levis Suita (bio), an award-winning public relations professional in Boston, to help him write and edit the handbooks.

The result is just what Dave had been looking for but couldn’t find a few years ago: comprehensive, in-depth, step-by-step, practical how-to information with lots of examples, case studies, and success stories.
