ARA Content, founded in 1996, provides "informative, high-quality content for reporters, editors and publishers in both the print and online media." ARA articles are free of charge, and can be downloaded or e-mailed directly from the ARA website. Text files can be published in whole or in part with your staff byline, or used as research materials. To use the articles you must register as a member, but there is no fee. ARA does not guarantee accuracy, so users are responsible for verifying content. Color and B&W graphics are available in JPEG and TIF formats and may be published only with the associated article text.
Copyright Clearance Center claims to be the largest licenser of text reproduction rights in the world. It currently manages rights relating to over 1.75 million works, and represents more than 9,600 publishers and hundreds of thousands of authors and other creators.
Newkirk Products, Inc., has an "articles library," and sells rights to more than 200 articles in the areas of personal finance and healthcare.
PDI Global, Inc., has a "content library," which offers non-exclusive rights to individual articles (you can use your own byline), for fees of around 50 cents to $1 per word, depending on length. PDI also offers exclusive rights to its content within a defined geographic territory, pending availability. Topic areas include business management, family business, five specific industries, law, personal financial planning, human resources and employee benefits, technology, valuation and litigation support.
