CENSUS BUREAU

THE USUALLY USEFUL INTERNET GUIDE FOR JOURNALISTS
A research tool created by seven students (from Europe and South America) in the Global Electronic Journalism program at the Institute for Journalism, Media and Communications in Stockholm.

VIRTUAL INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS AND ECONOMIC SOURCES
"VIBES" provides over 1,300 links to Internet sources of international business and economic information. It's free and easy to use. Maintained by the J. Murrey Atkins Library, University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Encyclopediae and almanacs

ENCARTA
The Web version of Microsoft's Encarta features an encyclopedia, audio dictionary, and half-decent atlas. Plus lots of information, junk and advertising.

ENCYCLOPEDIA BRITANNICA
The 200-year-old grandfather of encyclopedias is still free online, but will probably start charging a fee in the near future. The website has the usual A-to-Z information, plus: links to articles from 70 magazines, links to 100,000 other websites, U.S. and world news from the Washington Post (updated thru the day), and various databases.

NOLO LEGAL ENCYCLOPEDIA
Nolo, the legal publisher, has an awesome site that features a legal encyclopedia, law dictionary, legal research center, downloadable legal forms, and much more, all free. Nolo also offers its own publications for sale.

TECH ENCYCLOPEDIA
Defines more than 20,000 technology terms. By TechWeb (owned by CMP Media, Inc.). Also you can subscribe to free tech newsletters published by TechWeb and other publishers at www.techweb.com/newsletters/subscribe.

INFORMATION PLEASE ALMANAC
